Fatima Garcia

Data Consultant, The Data City

Fatima has a background in academic research and is experienced in designing original methodologies and purpose-oriented datasets. This is supported by her PhD degree at Nottingham Trent University, where she outlined a spatial analysis of instances of human rights abuse in oil-extracting areas, integrating quantitative-spatial and qualitative-socioeconomic datasets. Over the last 2 years, she has been collaborating with sector experts in governmental and business organisations to identify companies within the UK’s emerging sectors.

Fatima has built our extensive list of RTICs – mapping the emerging economy, and works on some of our largest client accounts. This exercise provided her with key experience creating industrial taxonomies that represent the supply and/or value chains of the emergent sector. Therefore, she is contributing to the definition of new industries and modes of production in the UK.

Furthermore, she is an Associate Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, where she teaches Environmental Sociology in the Department of Social and Political Sciences. She enjoys working with students, and her position in university helps her to continue networking in academic environments.

Responsibility at The Data City

Fatima leads on the design and delivery of projects. This involves understanding the needs of the project or client and identifying the tools, data and methods that can produce the desired outcome. Besides, Fatima extracts insights and provides overarching conclusions about the sectors. This proves a relevant task, as far as she can communicate the impact of RTICs and provide examples of the analysis and data visualisations that can be produced with our data.
